Description
Lidocaine 2% for Injection 5mL Single Dose Glass Vial, 10/Pack – Pfizer
Lidocaine is a prescription medication used to treat various types of pain. It belongs to a class of medications called local anesthetics. Lidocaine works by blocking nerve signals from the pain receptors in the skin and nerves. This prevents the pain signals from traveling to the brain, which reduces the sensation of pain.
Lidocaine, a local anesthetic agent, produces its pharmacological effects by decreasing the excitability of cells, predominantly sodium channels, in the nervous system. Lidocaine selectively blocks sodium channels, prolonging the refractory period and therefore inhibiting the spread of an action potential. The inhibition of sodium current reduces excitability of the neuron and slow conduction. Lidocaine binds reversibly to the open sodium channel and blocks the inactivation process. Lidocaine also has an antinociceptive effect.
