American Regent Cyanocobalamin for Injection is a form of vitamin B12 that is used to prevent or treat low levels of this vitamin in the body. It works by providing the body with a source of vitamin B12.
Vitamin B12 Injection Cyanocobalamin 1,000 mcg is a sterile multiple dose Vial. Each mL contains Cyanocobalamin 1000 mcg, sodium chloride and benzyl alcohol 0.015 mL in water for injection. Hydrochloric acid and/or sodium hydroxide may have been added to adjust the pH (range 4.5 – 7.0). Vitamin B-12 injection is essential to growth, cell reproduction, hematopoiesis (blood formation), and nucleoprotein (protein and tissue synthesis). Cyanocobalamin is used to treat vitamin B12 deficiency in people with pernicious anemia and other conditions. Cyanocobalamin is a man-made form of vitamin B12 used to treat low levels (deficiency) of this vitamin. Vitamin B12 helps your body use fat and carbohydrates for energy and make new protein. Cyanocobalamin is indicated for Vitamin B12 deficiencies due to malabsorption which may be associated with the following conditions:
- Addisonian (pernicious) anemia
- Gastrointestinal pathology, dysfunction, or surgery, including gluten enteropathy or sprue, small bowel bacteria overgrowth, total or partial gastrectomy
- Fish tapeworm infestation
- Malignancy of pancreas or bowel
- Folic acid deficiency
It may be possible to treat the underlying disease by surgical correction of anatomic lesion leading to small bowel bacteria overgrowth, expulsion of fish tapeworm
