Betamethasone is a steroid. It prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. Betamethasone topical (for the skin) is used to treat the inflammation and itching caused by a number of skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, or allergic reactions.
It is used as a topical cream to relieve skin irritation, such as itching and flaking from eczema. It is used as a treatment for local psoriasis, as betamethasone dipropionate and salicylic acid, or as the combination calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate.
