Lupron Depot-Ped Pediatric Kit (7.5 mg) is used to treat precocious (early) puberty in female children. It belongs to a class of drugs known as gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists. Lupron Depot-Ped interrupts the abnormal signaling from the brain that nerves send to the ovaries and pituitary gland. This interrupts the production of puberty-causing hormones, which allows the child’s body to slow or stop the physical changes of early puberty.
Lupron Depot-Ped Pediatric Kit (7.5 mg) comes as a vial of medication to be injected under the skin (subcutaneously) by a healthcare provider. The initial dose is based on the child’s weight. The typical dose is 3 injections once a month for a total of 4 doses. Your healthcare provider will tell you how to continue treatment with Lupron Depot-Ped Pediatric Kit (7.5 mg). It is important to follow your healthcare provider’s instructions very carefully.
If early puberty is treated with Lupron Depot-Ped Pediatric Kit (7.5 mg), most girls return to a normal state of puberty. However, a small number of girls may experience delayed puberty.
