Description
Paricalcitol Injection (Vitamin D) 2 mcg/mL Single Dose Vial (25 Pack)
Paricalcitol (Vitamin D) is a synthetic vitamin D analog which is indicated for the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis. Paricalcitol (Vitamin D) inhibits the production of parathyroid hormone (PTH) by binding to the vitamin D receptor in the parathyroid gland, thereby decreasing serum PTH levels. The mechanism of action by which paricalcitol (Vitamin D) produces its therapeutic effects in secondary hyperparathyroidism is not completely understood, but is thought to involve the activation of the vitamin D receptor and the suppression of PTH gene expression.
